I realize in this world, how important it is to get a college education. Withone one it is difficult to survive in the real world. I see this first hand from my mother, she graduated from high school and has her diploma, but that is not enough. Without a college education / degree under your belt you are limited in advancing life...Having a college education can make a huge difference in my life in all areas, and can increase your mind, your earnings, and your success. All that you desire to do is made easier with more education; you will have more opportunities available to you. You can have a positive influence on your family and the world.

I really couldn't have graduated without my mentor Sarah. She has been there for me through thick and then, and by my side so that I wouldn't give up. So, I really owe a lot to her and the Byrne Foundation...I will be attending Metro State and studying criminology.

I am the fourth out of five children, and I will be the first to graduate and get a diploma! The accomplishments that I have made thought this past year have become a big part of my life. I will be attending Front Range Community College of Westminister, and plan to have a career so that I may become responsible and independent, and also become a sophisticated woman!

My mentor and I have a great relationship. I say this because I feel like I can talk to her about anything and everything. We go out to the movies, dinner and even lunch. She has helped me out a lot with school and applying to college. She even helped me write my college essay, which came out great!

The Foundation has helped me so much..if it wasn't for this scholarship I would not be where I am today. I would not have received the education I did, or experience the fun of high school. It has taken me out of my normal environment and has shown me how to live and act in another. I have grown so much because of you, and it has prepared me to take on the other things. The opportunity that has been given to me is great, so I am not going to waste it by quiting, but use it by going on.

My mentor and i have know each other for four years now, and I know if my mentor James had not been there for me to push and keep going to school, things could have been so much different for me.

I am proud of my accomplishment. I have stayed in school and will be attending college next fall. I never gave up even when things got hard. I will be the second one in my family to go to college. I have received good grades all four years. I helped my family out in whatever they needed, and still tried to keep up with all my school work.
-- Carlos, Machebeuf High School
Thank you for helping me accomplish the BIGGEST dream of my life, and it is graduating from high school. It was one of the happiest days of my life...The Byrne Foundation has helped me in many ways...from getting a tutor, and arranging meetings with my teachers and my mom.
