The Byrne Urban Scholars program is one-of-a-kind. They not only give the students scholarships to local private schools where they can get more individual academic attention, but they also set each student up with an adult mentor who is often with them throughout their entire high school years. They are committed to supporting young men and women who have a great deal of potential, but not necesarily the opportunities. They serve holistically, focusing on academic and social engagement. Help me help them. This year, I'm committing to streak my hair purple and braid it. It doesn't exactly go with a corporate job, but that's ok to me because this is worth it - and fun!

It shows more than in the pictures!!! My hair is brown - though most call it black. I love my curls and have never straightened them. However, in my youth, when I was angry with the world, I did color my hair flame red....but it only took at the roots and took forever to fix. Oh, and then there was the time I got the purple streak down in venice beach... and the single braid that I kept for about 2 years... And then there have been the micro-braids, which I have to say look quite professional in my opinion. Other than that, I have never done ANYTHING to my hair! I barely even bother to cut it because with curls, most people don't even notice.
