Why is this fundraiser important to you?
Our youth are faced with far more challenges and hardships than we ever were. They deserve our help and support for their sakes and ours! Oh yeah, and plus it's a great excuse to get funky with my hair :-p

Message to your donors
This fundraiser is providing money to Colorado Youth at Risk (http://www.coyar.org/) where I am currently active as a mentor for a fabulous 10th grader named Teague. This is an amazing program that is helping teens from 9th grade to graduation. Not only does the program help them academically, but it also helps them become more professional and responsible citizens. The long term effects of the program, on all of us, are PRICELESS! Please help us by giving a little cash. In fact, DONATE $20, AND I'LL LET YOU PICK THE COLOR FOR SOME OF MY HAIR!

Grower Bio
"If what Proust says is true, that happiness is the absence of fever, then I will never know happiness. For I am possessed by a fever for knowledge, experience, and creation." -- Anaïs Nin

That is one my all time favorite quotes and perfect to start out my bio section! So about me…

I am passionate about learning new things and experiencing life to the fullest. That may mean that I have 10 projects going at once none of which are related (Carpentry…why not! Even knitting…and not your grannies knitting. Training for a marathon…ouch, but sure. Supporting friends in their endeavors… Etc. Etc. Etc!)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO TRAVEL!!!! And, do so every chance I get. A few of my favorite places/experiences…sitting on the Kilauea Volcano on the big island of Hawaii at night to star gaze and watch the lava in the distance; a remote lighthouse in Scotland amidst the fog and mist along with a cute little flippy seal; the Orkney islands and the Neolithic monuments with Viking graffiti…Thor was here…how cool is that; The clear emerald and sapphire hues of the Lakes of Montebello near San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico; Para-gliding off of Monte Blanc in the French Alps…breathtaking; Hiking the only temperate coniferous rainforest in the world - Olympic National Rain Forest in Washington State. Okay, I could keep going, but I think you get the point!

Professionally, I’m a professor in statistics with research in genetics. (Yes, I can feel you cringe, and I know you probably had an awful statistics or mathematics teacher…I know…here is a big hug for you) I’ve always been a math nerd, but wanted to do something useful with it so I spend my research time working on ways to find genes that cause human disease. If we find them, we can possibly make drugs for these diseases or predict those most at risk. Outside of research, I try to teach others how to misuse and abuse statistics appropriately. Just kidding…I’m all about the truth!

3 When asked if your hair color is real,
have you lied?

Yes, I usually say it's naturally purple.
